UoS 01Nov25- Session 4 - High Adventure Planning

Description

PDF with a list of topics and the URL to access Scouting America's "The Adventure Plan" (TAP) planning resources page!  Fifty-two topics to aid you in planning your unit-level high adventure outings.

Scouting America's Outdoor Program is structured to provide challenges and opportunities for adventure at many levels.  "The highest level of challenge for a troop or crew is to plan and carry out its own high-adventure experience. These activities for more experienced Scouts are planned and implemented by youth members with coaching from their adult leaders."  You can plan and conduct an awesome unit-level high adventure, often within just a few hours from home, and for a fraction of the cost of the pre-structured, scripted national high adventure bases.  Scouting America has a website called "The Adventure Plan" to help youth and adult leaders go through the planning process for creating a unit-level high adventure.  The basic website url is tap.scouting.org.  On that page, you will find a link to a catalog of Historic Trails, and a listing of numerous council-operated high adventure bases.  As of 01 Nov 2025, the "guts" of the website are behind a password link from the main page in the Introduction link, while the content is being updated at the national level.  However, you can bypass this feature by going directly to index of topics at https://tap.scouting.org/tap-steps/.   Reviewing each of the steps will give you food for thought and steps you can take to guide your planning process to make your adventure successful.  See you on the trail!
